Tough, stiff and quirky? Discover the Frisian in yourself in the Frisian Museum! You go there for a cup of coffee, an original gift or a movie visit – but especially for the museum of course. Here you will discover everything about the eleven cities and the countryside, the love-hate relationship with water, the search for the typically Frisian culture and Friesland's place in the world.

Dance with the mysterious Mata Hari, delve into her diary and discover her sad fate as a possible double agent. Battle the 16th-century rebel Grutte Pier against the Dutch or fall prey to his huge sword if you can't say 'bûter brea en griene tsiis'. Feel like the king or queen of Friesland with the sparkling gold and silver from the mounds. Or enjoy work by (world) famous artists and slow design by leading designers - tough and sustainable, with an eye for tradition and craftsmanship. In the Frisian Resistance Museum you will meet hungry children who were housed in the Frisian countryside to recuperate.

Visit one of the many exhibitions, immerse yourself in a surprising workshop or take a look with an artist in residence. During the school holidays it is a lot of fun in the Fries Museum. If an archaeologist is collecting pottery shards or painting a self-portrait in the Golden Age style, it is all possible. And don't forget to take home a special souvenir. In the museum shop you will find the best gifts with a Frisian touch: felt work by artist Claudy Jongstra and hand-painted trays from Hindeloopen, but also that one special Frisian-language children's book.
