Wijnaldum (Winaam)

Wijnaldum is a village situated in the flat landscape of northwestern Friesland, with the sea dike and the cranes and masts of Harlingen harbour in the background. The village has around 600 inhabitants.

In the early Middle Ages, northwestern Friesland (Westergo) was a centre of wealth, power and goldsmithing. Remarkable gold finds have been made, particularly around Wijnaldum. These discoveries show that this area held a prominent position within the Frisian kingdom of the time.

At the Wijnaldum Visitor Centre, housed in the old consistory next to the Andeaskerk, this history is brought to life.
